California Recognized with Two NASCIO Awards

October 13, 2021 – The National Association of Chief Information Officers (NASCIO) has recognized California with two awards during its annual conference in Seattle.

The NASCIO State Technology Innovator Award went to California State Chief Technology Innovation Officer Rick Klau for his leadership overseeing the creation of California’s Digital Vaccine Record—a first-of-its-kind service in the state that enables all Californians to opt in on a secure and shareable digital copy of their COVID-19 vaccination record. Since its launch in June 2021, millions of Californians have accessed the portal and downloaded their records.

The state of California received the NASCIO State CIO Office Special Recognition Award for My Turn: California’s Front Door to Vaccine Access, a user-friendly vaccine management system. CDT, the California Department of Public Health, and Los Angeles and San Diego counties partnered on the system rollout. My Turn rocketed from concept to launch in just two weeks. The initiative tracked vaccine supply and equitably organized more than 7 million vaccine appointments, enabling California to deliver more doses than any other state.
