July 12, 2023 – A diverse, innovative workforce is crucial to ensure we are ready to tackle future challenges. That’s why we are taking action early to cultivate the next generation of technology leaders even before they graduate from high school to begin their careers. For the past three years, CDT has partnered with the Folsom-Cordova Unified School District (FCUSD), through the Career Technical Education Summer Preceptorship Program (CTESPP). CTESPP offers students a hybrid work-based learning experience to match their personal and professional aspirations.
This year, three high school students matched with CDT. The students participated in a four week-long hybrid course of study, earning high school credits through a combination of classroom and valuable on-the-job learning experiences. Working 15-20 hours per week, the students explored their passions and gained insights to make informed career choices. One memorable experience was a tour of CDT’s tier III data center, where they saw firsthand the level of security and behind-the-scenes work involved in maintaining the facility. Students worked with several CDT teams, including Desktop Support, Office of Digital Services, and the Office of Information Security, which helped them develop their skills and confidence. Our interns represent the future, not only at CDT but in government and technology as a whole. Early investment in the next generation empowers young people to build successful careers and contributes to a brighter future for us all.
