State CISO Vitaliy Panych Recognized with CyberScoop 50 Leadership Award

November 29, 2023 – California State Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) Vitaliy Panych was among a select group of government and industry security professionals recently recognized with a 2023 CyberScoop 50 award for his critical role in Government Leadership by the Scoop News Group. The honor is bestowed on security leaders responsible for protecting vital networks, information, and critical infrastructure.   

Panych was appointed State CISO by Governor Gavin Newsom in 2021. Prior to his appointment, he had been serving in an acting capacity for nearly 2 years. A veteran of state government technology, he served as Agency Chief Information Security Officer at the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation and worked at several state departments in progressively senior roles before arriving at CDT in 2018 as Deputy State CISO.   

Panych has been the recipient of several distinguished awards, including the 2022 Thomas M. Jarrett State Cybersecurity Leadership Award presented by the National Association of Chief Information Officers (NASCIO).
